Sisa: Panaghoy ng Pinakamiserableng Babaeng Katha ni Rizal

Ateneo de Manila University’s School of Humanities, with the support of the Kwan Laurel Donation to the Humanities, presents “Sisa: Panaghoy ng Pinakamiserableng Babaeng Katha ni Rizal.”

Born from literature, memory, and grief, Sisa returns to the figure of Rizal’s most wounded mother and listens to her again, this time through the voices of women whose lives have been shaped by violence in our own time. Drawing from the lived experiences of mothers affected by state violence in the Philippines and by the Israel-Palestine conflict, the performance asks how mourning, love, and resistance endure across history.

Written by Dr Allan Derain and Dr Rowena Festin, directed by Dr Missy Maramara, and performed by Ms Camille Abaya, this solo theatrical performance builds on the version first presented at the 2025 Frankfurt Book Fair.
