When I was young, I liked to play with a Magic Slate. It is not a high tech type of gadget (unlike what the kids have today). I like to play with it because it has the capacity to erase anything I write or draw, by just lifting the plastic-like cover sheet on top. I can start with a new script or create a new artwork on the blank canvas. I am confident that should I make a mistake again, it can be wiped clean because that is how the magic slate works.

To some extent, Easter is that way also. Lent, and in particular, Holy Week, gives us an opportunity to examine our life’s lines and drawings. Because of sin, the lines that we have previously drawn may be twisted and the drawings, imperfect. But, the Lord’s passion, death and resurrection erases all our sins, and we can start to write the story of our life again…and again…and again. This saving act of love is the magic slate in our lives. It is a demonstration of God’s endless mercy and compassion.

This Easter season, let us be grateful for this gift of a new beginning. With God’s grace in our lives, we will be able to write or draw anew that masterpiece that God has intended for us.

Happy Easter!
