On a rainy Saturday morning, at the Rizal Monument, the Ateneo Alumni Association, together with the celebrating jubiliarians led by high school ’92, gathered for the 2017 Wreath Laying Ceremony. The event was also graced by University President, Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin, SJ and Director of the Office of Alumni Relations, Fr. Norberto Bautista, SJ.
Wreath Laying is an annual tradition of the AAA that commemorates Ateneo alumnus Dr. Jose Rizal. The ceremony is always set on the Saturday before the Ateneo Grand Alumni Homecoming, officially kicking off the celebration.
The event was followed by breakfast at Barbara’s in Intramuros, where three golden jubilarians were awarded with the AAA Grand Alumni Homecoming Awards. The recipients ; Jose Mari Chan, Dr. Manuel Dayrit and Jesus Zulueta Jr for their works in the field of music, medicine and human development respectively.
To celebrate the anniversary of the Golden Jubilarians, the AAA has established the AAA Grand Alumni Homecoming Awards. This will be given to one to two alumni from each celebrating golden jubilarian batch. It is given to the alumni who consistently exhibits both loyalty and excellence; whose achievement, in both his or her professional and personal life, is an example of Ateneo ideals, marked by generous service to the school, community and the country; who is held in high esteem by his or her batch and nominated through the class representative.
