The year 2014 marks the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the restoration of the Society of Jesus from being suppressed by Pope Clement XIV in 1773. The suppression was carried out in every country, except for Prussia and Russia where Catherine the Great had forbidden the papal decree to be executed. In August, 1814, after roughly 41 years, Pope Pius VII resolved to restore the Jesuits in the world. Since then, the different provinces of the Society were also restored, and the various ministries of the Jesuits continue to live and grow to this day.
In this promotional video, learn more about the restoration of the Society: its history, struggles and triumphs, with particular focus on the Philippine Province.
“We want to be thankful for the 200 years of grace and blessings….we want it to be an experience of renewal, we want to renew ourselves spiritually,” says Fr. Antonio Moreno, SJ, Provincial Superior of the Philippine Society of Jesus.
